  • Description

On 3 April, 60 fighter-bombers from two American aircraft carriers struck at targets in the Thanh Hoa area of North Vietnam. U.S. sources say one plane was shot down.

The guns shown in this film are emplaced near road and rail bridges in the Thanh Hoa region, some 65 miles south of Hanoi.

An American military communique of April 3rd stated that 60 planes from the carriers Coral Sea and the Hancock hit targets in the Thanh Hoa area with rockets and bombs. The United States Navy says its jets knocked out a strategic bridge over the River Ma and damaged a nearby railroad bridge.

American navy pilots described the anti-aircraft fire that day as fairly heavy. One fighter-bomber was shot down and crashed. Its pilot was captured. The crash of this plane and fire afterward is shown in our film. Wreckage of the plane being removed is also shown in our film.

North Vietnamese military sources say 18 planes were shot down on this raid.

American navy planes were raiding again on May 13th in the Thanh Hoa area.
