Background: THE WORLD'S GREATEST MOTOR-CYCLE MEETING, THE ISLE OF MAN TOURIST TROPHY RACES, STARTS TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AND CONTINUES FOR A WEEK. THE BEST RIDERS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE HAVE BEEN PRACTISING ON THE 37 1/2 MILE (60KM) CIRCUIT.

THIS YEARS'S MEETING INCLUDES EIGHT RACES, SIX OF THEM COUNTING IN THE 1968 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE RACES ARE: INTERNATIONAL SIDECAR; 50 C.C. INTERNATIONAL; LIGHTWEIGHT(250 C.C.) INTERNATIONAL; STANDARD PRODUCTION MACHINES; JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL; LIGHTWEIGHT(125) INTERNATIONAL; SENIOR INTERNATIONAL.

THE BIG RACE IS THE SENIOR INTERNATIONAL, WHICH IS OVER SIX LAPS OF THE CIRCUIT. IT WILL BE RUN NEXT FRIDAY. BUT A LOT OF INTEREST HAS BEEN LOST AS THE REIGNING CHAMPION, MIKE HAILWOOD OF BRITAIN, IS NOT COMPETING. HAILWOOD HAS BEEN RIDING JAPANESE HONDAS FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS BUT HONDA HAVE WITHDRAWN THEIR WORKS TEAM THIS SEASON. THEY WILL NOT LET HAILWOOD RIDE AS HE IS STILL UNDER CONTRACT TO THEM.

THERE HAS BEEN AS EXCELLENT ENTRY AND ALL THE BIG PRODUCTION NAMES WILL BE THERE. THERE ARE 108 ENTRANTS FOR THE SENIOR INTERNATIONAL. COUNTRIES REPRESENTED INCLUDE BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA, SWITZERLAND, SOUTH AFRICA, FRANCE, ITALY, SWEDEN, MALTA, WEST GERMANY, AUSTRIA, CANADA, NEW ZEALAND AND ZAMBIA.
