    Sonepur, situated in Saran, North Bihar, is the venue of the biggest animal fair in the whole of India. Lakhs of people, men women and children, assemble every year on the Kartiki Purnima day. The huge concourse of humanity is popularly known as Sonepur Fair.

    From Calcutta to Patna is about 331 miles, then we cross the River Ganges where the Gandok meets - there we are steamer available for crossing the river. Then we had to walk more than 7 miles to reach at the destination.

    Mythological and historical as well as social and economic reason have combined to impact a national character to this fair. Primarily however its great importance is as a place of Hindu Pilgrimage.
