  • Description

Two North Korean sailors, captured in a gun-boat clash off the east coast of Korea July 30 this year, were handed back Sept 8 to North Korean officials at the Panmunjon demarcation point.

Still dressed in American style civilian clothes given to them by the United Nations Military Armistice Commission, the two men, Han Chea-chun (27) and Kim Hi-sik (19), were interviewed by newsmen before changing into North Korean uniform and being handed over to a North Korean officer.

On the North Korean side of the demonstration line they were given a heroes welcome by small girls, who presented them with flowers.

The two men - and two still in a US Army hospital near Seoul - were captured after their gun-boat had been sunk by gunfire from a South Korean gun-boat while intruding upon South Korean territorial waters.
