In the United States a firm has developed a weapon for use against rioters. It's been called the "Stun-gun." It fires a projectile which at 100 feet hits a man with the power of a heavyweight boxer's punch.
The gun, developed by a Californian firm, looks like a truncheon and can even be used as a riot stick. The projectile, containing half a pound (230 grammes) of bird shot, leaves the muzzle at about 110 miles an hour (175 kmph.) The projectile opens out to look rather like a pancake. It's been given a variety of names including the Lead Hamburger and the flying pizza.
The British Army has been evaluating the gun for possible use against rioters in Northern Ireland.
