    A PORTION OF BUDDHA'S RELICS FROM CEYLON, A GIFT TO MR. NATSUTARO SHORIKI, PUBLISHER OF A JAPANESE NEWSPAPER, ARRIVED IN TOKYO BY AIR ON APRIL 8 - THE ANNIVERSARY OF BUDDHA'S BIRTHDAY.

    THE GIFT FROM THE CEYLONESE GOVERNMENT, WAS BROUGHT BY A SEVEN-MEMBER MISSION TO PROMOTE BUDDHISM IN JAPAN.

    ABOUT 500 BUDDHISTS WERE AT THE AIRPORT TO SALUTE THE ARRIVAL OF THE RELICS. AMONG THEM WERE REPRESENTATIVES OF VARIOUS BUDDHISTS ASSOCIATION.

    THE RELICS, CONTAINED IN A RECEPTACLE SHAPED LIKE A MINIATURE PAGODA, WERE PLACED IN A GUEST ROOM AT THE AIRPORT TERMINAL BUILDING. BUDDHIST PRIESTS, LED BY KOTEN TAKAHASHI, CHAIRMAN OF THE KANAGAWAN-KEN BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION, CHANTED PRAYERS AND BURNED INCENSE BEFORE THE RELICS.

    LATER, THE RELICS WERE ESCORTED TO THE MYOKENDO SANCTUARY BY BOY SCOUTS, BUDDHIST MUSICIANS, CEYLONESE STUDENTS, REPRESENTATIVES OF BUDDHIST ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER DIGNITARIES.
