    GODEFROOT AND GERSEN KARSTENS, OF HOLLAND, FLASHED OVER THE LINE TOGETHER AND MOST PEOPLE NEARBY THOUGHT KARSTENS HAD WON. BUT OFFICIALS GAVE THE VERDICT TO GODEFROOT AFTER EXAMINING A PHOTOGRAPH. GODEFROOT WAS GIVEN A TIME TWO SECONDS FASTER THAN KARSTENS.
