  • Description

A top-level delegation of Rhodesian nationalists left Zambia's capital, Lusaka, on Thursday (6 February) for Dar as Salaam to discuss the latest developments in moves aimed at settling the constitutional dispute in Rhodesia with the Presidents of Botswana, Tanzania and Zambia.

They were Bishop Abel Muzorew, President of the African National Council (ANC), Vice-President Elliott Cabellah and four executive members including Mr. Joshua Nkomo and William Muzuruwa.

The party arrived to Lusaka from Salisbury after a meeting with Prime Minister Ian smith -- the first between the white government and its black Nationalist opponents since December's Lusaka peace agreement between the two sides.

In the Zambian capital, local Nationalist leaders joined the group on the flight to Dar as Salaam. President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia and the Botswana President Sir Seretse Khama were on the same plane.

The dar as Salaam conference ended on Friday and it was described as very successful.

The party newspaper of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) said it was believed the meeting discussed the venue and date for a constitutional conference and how to select representatives and a chairman for the meeting.
