    THE UNIVERSITY OF SIERRA LEONE CONFERRED ITS DEGREES ON STUDENTS ON SATURDAY (27 NOVEMBER) AS WELL AS HONORARY DEGREES ON A PHARMACIST AND A SURGEON.

    SIR ERNEST MORGAN, A LEADING PHARMACIST in Sierra Leone since 1936 was the first to receive an honorary degree, followed by Mr. Olu Williams, a senior surgeon.

    SYNOPSIS: The University of Sierra Leone, in Freetown, held its annual degree ceremony last Saturday. It's the largest and best equipped university in the country.

    The Principal and Chancellor of the University welcomed the many guests parents of the new graduates as well as specially invited politicians and dignitaries who see in the graduates the future elite of the country. When the new graduates had taken their places, a solemn procession of the lecturers and professors began the ceremony.

    The students graduated in the full range of disciplines, in the arts as well as the sciences. Literature and art are given as much support as the more immediately useful science disciplines as physics and chemistry and technological subjects.

    First to receive an honorary degree was SIR Ernest Morgan and leading pharmacist since 1936. He was made a Doctor of Civil Law. Mr. Olu Williams a senior surgeon in the Ministry of Health, was made a Doctor of Science.
