Background: INTRODUCTION: Real Madrid got one step nearer to the European Cup Final in Paris on May the 27th when it beat Inter Milan 2-0 in the semi-final first leg in Madrid on Wednesday night (8 April).

SYNOPSIS: Before a crowd of a 100,000 people the Spanish team laid almost constant siege to the Inter Milan penalty area populated at times with as many as nine men.

Real, which has won the European Cup on six occasions already, appeared determined to do its best to get to the final again, Santillana scoring the first goal in the 28th minute of the match.

The Spanish goal spurred the Italians into some rapid counter-attacks, but to no avail. Spain's Juanito saw his chance and scored a second goal for his team from close range in the 47th minute.

But despite the win, Real is still not sure of being in the Cup final. The Spanish team still has the second leg of the semi-final to go and a lot of work ahead of it.
