  • Description

Five bombs exploded in Istanbul on Sunday (May 7) wounding two policemen and a youth, and damaging several cars and buildings.

The explosions, mainly small dynamite charges, were linked with the executions in Ankara early Saturday (May 6) of three members of the "Turkish People's Liberation Army," and came as hundreds of police and troops maintained the strict security clamp-down ordered Thursday (May 4).

In one explosion a young man had both hands blown off while placing a dynamite charge under a car. The policemen were injured by a bomb thrown in a street.

Troops and police have been ordered to guard against a repetition of acts like the hijacking of a Turkish airliner to Bulgaria last week, and other reprisals by the "Liberation Army."
In Ankara, the capital, where the executions took place, and where three other men under sentence of death are still held prisoner, security forces have clamped a tight security grip on the city and imposed a rigid night curfew. In some parts of the city it is forbidden for pedestrians to walk about sight-seeing.

Much of this Visnews film, shot by Necdet Iseler in Ankara, was taken form the back of a moving car in one such district; the Embassies area.
