    EFFORTS TOWARD IMPROVING RELATIONS BETWEEN CONGO-KINSHASA AND CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE TOOK PLACE EARLIER THIS MONTH. PRESIDENT MOBUTU RECEIVED BRAZZAVILLE'S SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MR. MOPOLO, IN KINSHASA. THE TWO DISCUSSED ISSUES THAT ARE OF INTEREST TO BOTH COUNTRIES--SEPARATED BY THE CONGO RIVER.

    PLANNED IN ADVANCE, THE RECEPTION WAS HELD DESPITE THE DEATH OF A LEADING MEMBER OF CONGO-KINSHASA'S PARLIAMENT. THE BODY OF DEPUTY KABENGELE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO KINSHASA FROM BRUSSELS, WHERE THE M.P. HAD DIED SUDDENLY. THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WAS IN OFFICIAL MOURNING, FOLLOWING THE DEATH.

    SYNOPSIS: The National Assembly of Congo-Kinshasa went into official mourning recently following the death of one of its members. The body of deputy Kabengele was brought back to Kinshasa from Brussels, where the M.P. had died suddenly.

    The President of the National Assembly, Mr. Boboliko, and other officials joined the large crowd of mourners at the airport. The coffin was carried from the aircraft and placed in a car for the procession of mourning through the streets.

    Planned in advance of the death of Mr. Kabengele, President Mobutu received a dignitary from Congo-Brazzaville. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from Brazzaville, Mr. Mopolo, in a further move toward improving relations between the two countries, had talks lasting two hours with President Mobutu. The two discussed issues of mutual interest to the countries, separated by the Congo River.
