    AT AMSTERDAM'S INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS CENTRE TODAY (MONDAY) DELEGATES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD GATHERED FOR THE OPENING OF THE 18TH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF AEROSPACE MEDICINE. THE THREE-DAY MEETING WERE OFFICIALLY OPENED BY PRINCE BERNHARD OF THE NETHERLANDS, PATRON OF THE CONGRESS.

    LECTURES - RANGING IN SUBJECTS FROM "GROUP PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL METHODS OF SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT OF FLYING CREW" TO "HOMO SAPIENS ON WINGS AND THE CARDIOLOGIST" - ARE TO BE PRESENTED BY REPRESENTATIVES OF 20 COUNTRIES, FROM BRAZIL TO TAIWAN AND INCLUDING THE FIRST REALLY LARGE DELEGATION FROM THE U.S.R.R.

    AMONG THOSE PRESENT ON THE DIAS WITH PRINCE BERNHARD, WERE THE PRESIDENT OF THE CONGRESS, EDZ. DE VRIES; CHARLES A. BERRY, DIRECTOR OF MEDICAL RESEARCH OF OPERATIONS AT THE NASA MANNED SPACECRAFT CENTRE, UNITED STATES; AND DR. WIGHT, PRESIDENT OF THE ACADEMY OF AIR AND SPACE MEDICINE.

    IN HIS OPENING SPEECH, PRINCE BERNHARD SUMMED UP THE AIMS OF THE CONGRESS BY SAYING THAT "KEEPING MAN ALIVE IN AVIATION CALLS FOR SOMETHING MORE THAN MERE SELECTION. THERE HAS TO BE A CONSTANT SUPPORT OF MEDICAL SCIENCE IN NEARLY EVERY DETAIL. IT IS NOT ONLY THE PILOT, HOWEVER, WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS KIND OF AVIATION MEDICAL SUPPORT, BUT EVERYBODY ELSE WHO IS ENGAGED IN AVIATION."
    AFTER HIS SPEECH, PRINCE BERNHARD WAS PRESENTED WITH A GOLD COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL BY DR. WIGHT.
