    Toge's National Liberation Day -- the fourth anniversary of the seizure of power by the armed forces -- was marked in Lome by a big military and civil parade involving 80,000 people last week (January 13).

    President Etienne Eyadema, members of his government' and diplomats watched the procession, which included army half-tracks and armoured cars, as well as civil engineering equipment donated by France and West Germany.

    A delegation from Congo-Kinshasa was also present for the Liberation Day festivities. President Joseph Mobutu had been scheduled to attend, but was unable to do so.

    But a goodwill message from the Congolese leader was passed on to President Eyadema by the five-man visiting delegation, which was headed by the National Assembly President Andre Boboliko, and included Urban and Land Minister Joseph Kahamba.

    Also present at the Liberation Day parade was the French Minister with responsibility for African Affairs, M. Jaques Foreart. He brought with him an invitation for President Eyadema to make an official visit to France this year.
