    POLICE IN NEW DELHI YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) ARRESTED 17 PEOPLE AS 500 SUPPORTERS OF THE RIGHT-WING HINDU PARTY, THE JAN SANGH, MARCHED ON THE SOVIET EMBASSY TO PROTEST AGAINST SOVIET BROADCASTS DURING THE RECENT INDIAN ELECTIONS.

    THOSE ARRESTED DURING THE DEMONSTRATION INCLUDED 10 JAN SANGH MEMBERS OF THE DELHI METROPOLITAN COUNCIL.

    LED BY MR. ATAL BEHARI VAJPAYEE, PRESIDENT OF THE PARTY, THE DEMONSTRATORS SHOUTED ANTI-RUSSIAN SLOGANS AND WAVED BANNERS AND PLACARDS CONDEMNING ALLEGED SOVIET INTERFERENCE.

    THEY CLAIMED THAT RADIO MOSCOW BROADCASTS CRITICISING THE JAN SANGH PARTY DURING THE ELECTIONS WERE - "UNDUE INTERFERENCE IN INDIA'S INTERNAL AFFAIRS".

    THE 17 DEMONSTRATORS WERE ARRESTED AFTER SLIPPING THROUGH A POLICE CORDON AND REACHING THE EMBASSY GATES.
