    A sale of impressionist paintings today (Wednesday) realised 1,706,000 sterling -- a world record -- at Sotheby's Auction Rooms in London. An anonymous buyer paid top price of 155,000 sterling for Paul Cezanne's "Maison de Bellevue" painted between 1885, and depicting the farm and pigeon house at Bellevue, in France, owned by the artist's brother-in-law.

    A 1921 painting of a nude in a bathroom fetched 86,000 sterling and a London Gallery paid 73,000 sterling for Chagall's "Les Fiances" painted between 1927 and 1930.

    Also sold were paintings by Renoir, Monet and Pissarro.
