    Rumania is to increase its economic and technical aid to the People's Republic of the Congo following this week's visit to Brazzaville by President Nicolai Ceausescu. A communique signed by President Ceausescu and the Congolese President Marien Ngouabi on Tuesday (21 March) said further joint economic enterprises would be set up to exploit the country's timber resources, and talks were under way on closer cooperation in agriculture, shipbuilding and metal industries.

    During his four-day visit, President Ceausescu spoke of other foreign aid - military support of African national liberation movements. Condemning South Africa's apartheid policy and Portuguese colonialism in Africa, he said the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) had asked for money "and Rumania will give funds towards its activities."
    SYNOPSIS: For President Marien Ngouabi of the Congo, a promise of increased economic and technical aid from Rumania. In a communique signed in Brazzaville on Tuesday the Rumanian President, Nicholai Ceausescu, pledged cooperation on the setting up of further joint economic enterprises, including the exploitation of the republic's timber resources. The communique also said that talks were under way on closer cooperation in agriculture, shipbuilding and metal industries. It climaxed a four-day visit by President Ceausescu at the head of 60 Rumanian officials.

    During his visit, President Ceausescu spoke of other foreign aid - military and financial support of African national liberation movements. Condemning South Africa's apartheid policy and Portuguese colonialism in Africa, he said Rumania would give funds to help the activities of the Organisation of African Unity.

    President Ceausescu's visit followed similar economic missions to the Congo from East Germany and Upper Volta.
