Background: As South Vietnamese resistance to increased military activity from the North grows, the Saigon Government has stopped up its efforts to keep the public involvement in the war at a high level.

Morale-building displays of captured North Vietnamese weapons, newspaper publicity and television shows are all being used to keep the public apace with developments in the fighting.

Exhibitions are being organised and posters on street corners bring home to the population the fact that, despite the extent of North Vietnamese activity in their country, the South Vietnamese Army is still a match for the invaders.

The South Vietnamese Government realises that Vietnamisation has brought problems, and with public gatherings, radio and general entertainment, it hopes to speed up the time needed to bring it into complete effect by keeping the public fully informed.

The people are being shown how their army previously trained to fight battles with brute force, fire power and attrition, are new learning to adopt a more mobile attitude to warfare.

Recent successful counter attacks have had a dramatic psychological effect on the South Vietnamese Army....a feeling of victory that is being passed on constantly to the people of South Vietnam.

SYNOPSIS: Saigon, centre of South Vietnam's military campaigns against the North Vietnamese is also an important centre for another action...that of keeping the South Vietnamese people fully involved in developments in the war. As the resistance is increased North Vietnamese activity grows, the Government is taking every opportunity to step up its efforts at keeping the public fully informed.

Photographs of war activities, displayed at exhibitions in many parts of the city, bring home to the people trends in the battles. Captured arms which once helped the North Vietnamese make gains in several parts of the country, provide mute evidence of a victory.

Public gatherings and displays by military bands in public squares are another aspect of the Government's efforts to maintain morale among the people.

Radio programme aimed at keeping the people fully informed are another method.

Television, also, is playing its part. The South Vietnamese Government realises that Vietnamisation has brought problems, and hopes that by these closer links with the public, it will bring nearer the day it will come into full effect.
