  • Description

In Northern Norway, some 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle, the 6th Infantry Division of the Norwegian Army has held its annual arctic winter exercise. This year the exercise was called "King's Men".

The struggle is based on an imaginary conflict between two countries, namely Blueland and Orangeland. On the 1st March 1958, it was assumed that Orangeland Invasion Forces had landed a regimental combat team in the Lyngenfjord area.

Although outnumbered, the defending forces, the Blues, were able to prevent the invaders from breaking through to the South and the East. After a week, the brigade was relieved by mobilized units of the 6th. Infantry Division, and has since reorganised in the Bardufoss Area.

This exercise is organised within the framework of Nato, with representatives from Sweden, France, Denmark, America, and other Nato countries present.
