    THE MOVE BY THE PRESIDENT FOLLOWED A MEETING YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) WITH THE INDIAN PRIME MINISTER, MRS. INDIRA GANDHI AT THE WHITE HOUSE.

    MRS. GANDHI GAVE THE PRESIDENT AN ACCOUNT OF THE MEASURES BEING TAKEN BY HER GOVERNMENT TO RELIEVE THE FAMINE SITUATION IN INDIA, AND THE MOVES BEING MADE BY INDIA TOWARDS ACHIEVING SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN FOOD PRODUCTION.

    IT IS REPORTED THAT MRS. GANDHI HAS AGREED THAT INDIA WILL HEED AMERICAN SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW FOREIGN AID GIVEN BY THE UNITED STATES COULD BE BEST EMPLOYED.

    THE TWO LEADERS ALSO DISCUSSED CURRENT INTERNATIONAL PROBLEMS, AND THE RELATIONSHIPS EXISTING BETWEEN INDIAN AND PAKISTAN FOLLOWING THE TASHKENT AGREEMENT. MRS. GANDHI LEFT WASHINGTON FOR NEW YORK TODAY.
