  • Description

General Ayub Khan, President of Pakistan, arrived at London Airport, April 29, for the British Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference, beginning May 3. Pakistanis living in Britain were at the airport to welcome him.

Questioned about South Africa, he said he considered South African internal policies ruinous, dangerous, and to his mind suicidal. He was in favour of the Commonwealth leaders discussing South Africa at the Conference providing it did not aggravate the situation, and thought private talks with the South African leaders would help.

In South Africa, he said there was need for wisdom and large geartedness on the part of the rulers, and he did not think economic pressure against South Africa would do any food. He later drove to Windsor Castle to spend the night as the Queen's guest.
