    CHUNG HEE PARK, PRESIDENT OF SOUTH KOREA, FORMALLY ACTIVATED A HUGE MILITIA OF 2 MILLION SOUTH KOREAN RESERVISTS AT THE TAEJON PUBLIC STADIUM ON MONDAY (1 APRIL). TEN THOUSAND MILITIA MEMBERS SELECTED FROM ABOUT 4,000 UNITS THROUGHOUT THE NATION TOOK PART IN AN HOUR-LONG 'ACTIVATION' CEREMONY.

    MORE THAN 50,000 CITIZENS AND STUDENTS OF TAEJON, 90 MILES SOUTH OF SEOUL, PACKED THE MUNICIPAL STADIUM TO HEAR GENERAL PARK. ACCOMPANYING THE PRESIDENT WAS HOME MINISTER LEE HO AND DEFENSE MINISTER CHOI YUNG-HI. DURING THE CEREMONY PRESIDENT PARK DELIVERED THE RESERVE FORCE FLAG TO LT-GENERAL MUN HYUNG-TAE, COMMANDER OF THE RESERVE FORCE AND SECOND ARMY, AND WEAPONS TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MAJOR CITIES AND PROVINCES.

    THE MILITIA MEMBERS INCLUDED 420 WOMEN VOLUNTEERS. THEY JOINED THE OTHER RESERVISTS IN UNISON CHANTING OF A FIVE-POINT PLEDGE TO DO THEIR BEST TO DEFEND THE NATION. A GOVERNMENT PLAN CALLS FOR THE ARMING OF A FURTHER ONE MILLION RESERVISTS BY THE END OF THE YEAR, WHO WILL UNDERGO REGULAR MILITARY TRAINING FOR ONE HOUR EVERY WEEK.
