HOME. A few weeks ago I was talking on Panorama, I don't know whether any of you saw the programme, but on it I said in answer to a question from Robin Day, that the British economy has seldom if ever been stronger. Do you remember when the January figures were published, the hullabaloo that was made by the Socialists the next day and the accusation that has been made against me ever since that I was making the most ridiculous forecast about the British economy, and all the Socialists went about the country crying chaos and ruin. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I've stuck to my diagnosis, and I'm glad but not surprised to tell you that when sometime tomorrow when the news appears you will find that the Socialists have failed to talk the country into an economic crisis. So I'm sorry to disappoint the Socialist leaders and I hope tomorrow when they learn the truth they will manage to put as brave a face as they can upon Britain's happy situation.
HOME: Who but the British soldier with his patience and self discipline and good humour would have stuck the conditions to which he has been exposed in Cyprus since Christmas day? And if there is a peaceful end, as we profoundly hope to the Cyprus trouble, I think that Britain can be proud of the role that we have played.
