    THE "SEUMBEDIOUNE", A FRENCH-BUILT TUNA FISHING BOAT, HAS ENTERED DAKAR HARBOUR, READY FOR SERVICE IN THE SENEGALESE FISHING INDUSTRY. LAST TUESDAY (20 MAY), M. HABIB THIAM, SENEGALESE MINISTER FOR PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT, SPOKE AT A CEREMONY MARKING THE OCCASION.

    THE MINISTER SAID THAT THE GOVERNMENT WAS WORKING TO IMPROVE THE TUNA FISHING INDUSTRY IN SENEGAL AND COMMENTED ON A NEW FISH PROCESSING PLANT SOON TO BE COMPLETED IN DAKAR.

    MINISTER THIAM WAS GREETED BY OFFICIALS OF THE SENEGALESE FISHING FLEET ORGANISATION (SO.SA.P.) FOR WHOM THE BOAT WAS BUILT IN CHERBOURG. THE MINISTER LATER TOURED THE "SEUMBEDIOUNE", AND EXAMINED THE BRIDGE AND THE NAVIGATING EQUIPMENT.

    THE BOAT HAS FACILITIES FOR REFRIGERATING THE TUNA CATCH ON BOARD. IT HAS A CREW OF 14 SENEGALESE SEAMEN AND 6 FRENCHMEN, AND IS 115 FEET (35M) LONG AND ABOUT 27 FEET (8 1/2M) WIDE. THE "SEUMEDIOUNE" CAN REMAIN AT SEA FOR 35 DAYS AND OPERATE WITH EITHER LINES OR NETS.

    THE SHIP IS THE FIRST OF A SECOND LOT OF FIVE SUCH REFRIGERATING VESSELS TO BE DELIVERED TO THE PORT OF DAKAR.
