    SCIENCE MINISTERS FROM 21 LEADING INDUSTRIAL COUNTRIES MET IN PARIS TODAY (MONDAY) TO STUDY PROSPECTS FOR INCREASING INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL CO-OPERATION. THE MINISTER REPRESENT MEMBER NATIONS OF THE ORGANISATION OF ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT (OECD), WHICH COMPRISES 18 EUROPEAN NATIONS PLUS CANADA, JAPAN AND THE UNITED STATES.

    MUCH OF THEIR DISCUSSION DURING THE TWO-DAY MEETING IS EXPECTED TO BE BASED ON A TWO-YEAR SURVEY BY THE OECD ON THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF AN INTERNATIONAL "TECHNOLOGICAL GAP" IN FIELDS SUCH AS EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT.

    THE MINISTERS WILL ALSO STUDY AN OECD REPORT ON AMERICAN INVESTMENT IN EUROPE, WHICH SAYS UNITED STATES CAPITAL INVESTMENT IN THE COMMON MARKET ALONE HAS INCREASED FOUR-AND-A-HALF TIMES IN THE PAST 10 YEARS.

    THE DELEGATES ARE MEETING AT OECD HEADQUARTERS - CHATEAU DE LA MUETTE - IN PARIS.
