    One of the Japanese Emperor Hirohito's passions in life is the appreciation of zoology, and the visiting head of state spent part of his last full day in London visiting the city's world-famous Zoo. The Emperor seemed to relax and totally enjoy his visit to the London Zoo on Thursday (8 October). But competing for the attention of the newsmen's cameras was the Zoo's start attraction Chi-Chi, the only giant panda bear in the Western World. The bear was on its best behaviours for the official visit and amused the Emperor by eating a breakfast of bamboo shoots and chocolate in front of the Japanese Royal Party.

    SYNOPSIS: With Prince Philip acting as his guide, visiting Emperor Hirohito of Japan spent part of his last full day. Thursday, in London visiting the world famous London Zoo.

    The Emperor, a zoology enthusiast was warmly received by the Zoo's star attraction, Chi-Chi the only giant panda bear in the West. The celebrated bear was on its best behaviour for the royal guest and entertained the Emperor and Empress by eating a breakfast of chocolate and bamboo shoots.

    The Emperor was impressed by the bear's performance and told Zoo officials that he thought Chi-Chi was a lovely animal. Later in the day, the Royal visitors book in the other sights of the Zoo including this prize elk.
