  • Description

In the dunes near Petten in North Holland, the first Dutch Nuclear Reactor is being built; it will be a 'flux reactor', in which all kinds of materials used in this atomic age will be tested for their resistance to radio-active radiation.

The reactor 'tank' is 25 metres in diameter, and will eventually house the reactor. It is being built of special concrete to which iron ore has been added to absorb radiation.

Of American design, this reactor will be brought into use in 1959.
