    On the eve of his Christmas Day peace talks with Israeli Premier Ienachem Begin, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat prayed at the Elshefa Mosque in Ismailia. The meeting between the two leaders will discuss plans for a comprehensive peace in the Middle East. Upon leaving the mosque President Sadat faced a barrage of questions from newsmen in which he emphasised the Arab position had not wavered in its demands for the return of all lands occupied by the Israelis after the war in 1967, while not ruling out the possibility of the talks failing.

    SYNOPSIS: The Elshefa Mosque at Ismailia afforded a symbolic touch to the talks which begin Christmas day, in itself a time universally recognised as one of peace.

    It is not the first time that the Egyptian leader has sought prayer before meeting his Israeli counterpart. Before Sadat's historic trip to Jerusalem he also found solace in worship.
