Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and Mr. Antony Armstrong-Jones were at London Airport Jan 20 to say goodbye to Her majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh as they left aboard a B.O.A.C. 'Britannia' jet-prop airliner on their 20,000-miles tour of India, Pakistan, Nepal and Persia,
They will make only stop between London and Delhi. At Akrotiri Royal Air Force base, Cyprus, the Queen will met Archbishop Makarios during a two-hours refuelling stop.
The Queen's visit to India is the first by a British reigning monarch in 50 years. It will also mark the tenth anniversary on India becoming a Republic. The Queen will be the chief guest at an impressive ceremonial parade Jan 23 to mark the anniversary.
Other highlights of her three weeks in India will be a ride on a be jewelled elephant, a tiger hunt, a colourful boat trip down the sacred Ganges river, and a visit to the Taj Nahal at Agra.
