  • Description

Three radar technicians--two British and one Canadian--were found bound and shot dead when Turkish commandos stormed a house where they had been held by kidnappers in Northern Turkey, according to Ankara Radio.

Earlier, seven other technicians who had been working with the kidnapped men were found where they had been left behind, bound and gagged but apparently unhurt, by the kidnappers, identified as members of the Turkish People's Liberation Army, a left-wing extremist group.

The Turkish Prime Minister Dr. Nihat Erim has sent messages of sympathy to his British and Canadian counterparts. Before the bloody outcome of the kidnapping was known, Dr. Erim recorded a filmed statement in English.

SYNOPSIS: At an airfield in Turkey, crowds gathered to sea seven British radar technicians who were found gagged and bound but unhurt. The men had been abandoned by a left-wing extremist group, the self-styled Turkish People's Liberation Army. They were later flown to Ankara.

The seven were safe, but three others, two British and one Canadian, were still in the hands of the kidnappers. Turkish commandos mounted a siege of a house in Northern Turkey, where the kidnappers were holding-out with their hostages. According to Ankara Radio, the troops stormed the house, but found the three men bound and shot dead.

Before the news of the tragedy became known, Turkish Prime Minister Nihat Erim recorded this message.
