    The French Government has made a gift of a new trawler, the "Alidade" to the Entente Council, which consists of the five West African countries of the Ivory Coast, Upper Volta, Dahomey, Niger and Togo.

    The handing-over ceremony took place on Thursday (29 May) in the port city of Abidjan in the presence of the French Ambassador to the Ivory Coast, M. Jacques Raphael Leygues, the Minister in charge of Marine Affairs, M. Lamine Fadika, the Administrative Secretary of the Entente Council M. Paul Kaya, and the permanent representative of the Central Guarantee Fund, M. Jean Jacques Leclerc.

    The "Alidade" is a modern vessel which cost the French Government about two and a half million pounds sterling and will be used to improve fishing techniques among the member States of the Entente Council.
