    The situation in Indochina and a wide range of other issues were discussed at length in talks on Monday (9 April) between visiting Bangladesh President Ziaur Rahman and his Thai counterpart General Kriangsak Chamananad. President Zia arrived in Thailand on Sunday (8 April) for a three day state visit.

    SYNOPSIS: The two leaders met for two and-a-half hours at Government House in Bangkok.

    Prime Minister Kriangsak told reporters after the meeting that the foreign policies of Thailand and Bangladesh were very similar.

    Both countries recently called for the withdrawal of Vietnamese troops from Kampuchea and Chinese soldiers from Vietnam.

    The situation in the Indian sub-continent including the current political turmoil in Pakistan is also believed to have been touched on.

    Officials at the talks said both men explored ways to implement a joint fishing venture agreement signed by the two countries last year. The plan for joint fishing in the Bay of Bangal has been held up ever legal technicalities over the licensing of trawlers for the operation.

    General Zia leaves Bangkok on Monday (10 April) for Kuala Lumpur where he will hold talks with Malaysian leaders and sign two bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
