    A Maltese ministerial delegation was due home on Sunday (27 Feb) after a 24-hour visit to Libya.

    The official reason given for the trip was to discuss a "joint project of the adoption of the neutrality of Malta".

    The departure of the delegation from Luqa Airport followed the abrupt cancellation by the Maltese Prime Minister, Mr Mintoff, of a trip to London to see the British Prime Minister, Mr Heath.

    The delegation to Libya was led by Malta's Minister of Customs and Ports, Dr. Joseph Abela.

    SYNOPSIS: Luqa Airport in Malta on Saturday - and two members of a Maltese Ministerial delegation prepare to fly to Libya for talks. Their twenty-four hour trip to Tripoli followed the sudden cancellation of a trip to London planned by the Prime Minister, Mr Mintoff. Dr. Joseph Abele led the Maltese delegation: he's Minister of Custom and Ports in the Maltese Government.

    A government statement said the delegation would discuss with Libyan officials "collective support of the Malta Neutrality Project" by Libya and other Mediterranean nations. The other nations were not named. The delegation made no comment as they left for Tripoli - they were expected home on Sunday.
