    POLICE SEALED OFF A RESETTLEMENT ESTATE IN THE KOWLOON DISTRICT OF HONG KONG ON MONDAY NIGHT (9 OCT) AFTER TWO BOMBS HAD BEEN THROWN THERE. ONE OF THE BOMBS KILLED A MAN AND INJURED THREE OTHERS.

    THE BOMBS WERE BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THROWN FROM A NEARBY BUILDING AS POLICE ARRIVED AT THE ESTATE TO INVESTIGATE A SUSPECTED BOMB PLANTED ON A STREET CROSSING.

    THE DEAD MAN, AGED ABOUT 30, HAS NOT YET BEN IDENTIFIED.

    THE SECOND BOMB WHICH FAILED TO EXPLODE WAS LATED DETONATED BY A BRITISH BALLISTICS EXPERT.

    A BANNER, WRITTEN IN CHINESE, WAS FOUND IN THE VICINITY OF THE ATTACK. IT READ: BRITISH AUTHORITIES IN HONG KONG WILL LOSE. WE WILL STRUGGLE AGAINST YOUR ATROCITIES TO THE END.

    EARLIER, CHILDREN WERE EVACUATED FROM A SCHOOL AT THE WESTERN END OF HONG KONG ISLAND WHILE EXPERTS REMOVED A CACHE OF DELIGNITE FROM NEAR THEIR PLAYGROUND.
