    GREEK composer Mikis Theodorakis announced his resignation from the Communist Party last night.

    He said he resigned from the Greek Communist party exactly a week ago alter being a ticket-carrying communist for 30 years.

    Theodorakis, 47, made the announcement to Channel 7's Richard Linning, between concerts of his own music at Festival Hall.

    He said he was not satisfied with communism as it was put in action in the Republic of China.

    "I believe in basic Marxism - Lenintism but there have been very many developments," he said.

    "We have many new problems, a serious one being the problem of democracy and freedom which exists in the countries of the East."

    the following are a few facts about the interview attached with Theodorakis.

    He is at present touring Australia, the interview was recorded between shows at Melbourne's Festival Hall. In the first interview he was asked in he was a communist, and gave an affirmative answer. After the interview was completed, and while he rested in his dressing room (on the floor) he made the announcement that he had resigned from the Communist Party of Greece.
