  • Description

Officers from the Special Crime Squad and Narcotics Bureau in HongKong - together with Royal Naval divers - today (Saturday) continued the search for drugs dumped from a sampan in Lei Yu Mun Strait at the mouth of Hongkong harbour.

Police believe that a total of 40 sacks of opium and morphine are recoverable from the sea-bed and the search is expected to continue for the next few days.

Yesterday, under the supervision of Superintendent Peter Chan of the Special Crime Squad of the Royal Hongkong Police, 4,000 tales of raw opium, and 6 morphine blocks of about 15 pounds in weight, were recovered. The value of these drugs is estimated at Hongkong two million dollars. The total value is many times that, thus giving rise to speculation that this is one of the most important drug hauls in the history of Hongkong.
