    Almost all Israel's political and national leaders on Wednesday (6th October) visited the desert village of Sede Boker where elder statesman David Ben Gurion was celebrating his 85th birthday. The visitors, who inl???, President Zalman Shazar, Mrs Golda Meir the Prime Minister, and General Dayan were flown into the village by helicopter to honour Mr Ben Gurion who was Israel's first Prime Minister. He has lived in Sede Boker, writing the history of modern Israel, since his retirement in 1963.

    SYNOPSIS: A small house in the desert village of Sede Baker in Israel is the residence of David Ben Gurion...the country's first Prime Minister.

    On Wednesday Mr Ben Gurion celebrated his 85th birthday and was visited by many friends, relatives and national leaders....among them President Zalman Shazar, and Mrs Golda Meir the Prime Minister.

    Although the occasion was an informal one, many of the leaders and members of the Knesset had flown into the village by helicopter to honour Israel's elder statesman. Mrs Meir was one of many to bring a birthday gift.

    General Dayan also attended.

    Mr Ben Gurion's house soon became crowded with wellwishers, journalists and cameramen.

    He has lived at Sede Boker since his retirement in 1963, writing a history of modern Israel.
