    MR MASOTSHA MIKE HOVE, MEMBER FOR GWAI IN THE LAST FEDERATION OF RHODESIA AND NYASALAND PARLIAMENT, HAS BEEN APPOINTED THE FEDERATION'S HIGH COMMISSIONER IN NIGERIA. HE HAD A MEETING WITH SIR ROY WELENSKY, FEDERAL PRIME MINISTER, IN SALISBURY APR 4 TO DISCUSS ASPECTS OF THE POST.

    HE IS THE FIRST AFRICAN TO REPRESENT THE FEDERATION IN SUCH A HIGH POST. MR HOVE IS AGED 47 YEARS, AND IS MARRIED WITH SIX CHILDREN. HE IS A FORMER SCHOOL-TEACHER AND JOURNALIST.

    MR HOVE LEFT TEACHING IN 1946 TO BECOME EDITOR OF "THE BANTU MIRROR". HE HELD THIS POSITION FOR NEARLY EIGHT YEARS BEFORE ENTERING POLITICS. IN 1956, HE VISITED THE UNITED STATES ON A THREE-MONTH LEADER GRANT AND WAS THE FIRST AFRICAN FROM THE FEDERATION TO WIN SUCH A GRANT.

    HE REPRESENTED THE FEDERATION AT THE INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS OF NIGERIA IN 1960 AND AT THE REPUBLICAN CELEBRATIONS IN GHANA THE SAME YEAR.
