SYNOPSIS: New officers of the People's Army of Hungary were sworn in outside Parliament House and the State Flag in Budapest on Friday.

The officers made their oath to the Minister of National Defence, Lajos Czinege. In the last few years the celebration has become a tradition on the 20th of August, the celebration of the constitution.

The officers will be joining active units....some of them took part in manoeuvres earlier this month with Soviet and Czechoslovak forces. These were interpreted by President Tito of Yugoslavia as undue pressure on his country. President Tito has announced he will hold his own military manoeuvres in the autumn.

The Minister reminded the new officers of the proud military history of Hungary, and of their duty towards the army.
