Background: With the Moscow Olympics less than three months away, there's concern over whether the showpiece of the Games - a huge, covered stadium - will be finished in time.

SYNOPSIS: The stadium, one of the biggest venues for the Games, still looks like an unity construction site. The Soviet authorities say it will be completed in time for July the nineteenth, the opening day of the Games. But Western newsmen consider that the pre-Olympic competitions, scheduled for the stadium, may not take place. Work goes on as political battles rage abroad over which countries will join the United States in an Olympic boycott.

The development has a floor space the size of a football pitch, and can be divided in two by a huge sliding wall. This would provide separate halls for basketball and boxing. The Soviet Organising Committee is confident that the eight thousand workers on the site will have the Stadium ready on time.
