Background: President Soekarno of Indonesia - visiting Japan for the second time in just over a year - arrived in Tokyo by air, June 6.
His arrival was greeted by a 21-gun salute, and there to greet him was the Japanese Emperor, the recently married Crown Prince, Prime Minister Kishi and other Japanese Government representatives. President Soekarno will be a State Guest until June 10, and privately staying in Japan for a further 9 days afterwards.
After inspecting a Guard of Honour, President Soekarno - accompanied by Emperor Hirohito - entered a dignified Mercedes Benz of 1930 vintage and drove off to Geinhinken the Government's State Guest House.
On the American Airlines bringing him to Japan - the last stage of his world tour - President Soekarno celebrated his 58th birthday: a birthday cake was loaded on to the aircraft at Wake Island, and the airliner captain presented the President with an album of American folk songs.
