THE COMMISSION IN INVESTIGATING WHETHER AIR MARSHAL OTU AND NAVAL LT. KWAPONG WERE INVOLVED IN SUBVERSION AGAINST THE STATE.

    A WITNESS, EDWARD DAUDA A GHANAIAN STUDENT IN LONDON, TOLD THE COMMISSION HE HAD BEEN PAID TO SMUGGLE BOMBS INTO GHANA UNDER INSTRUCTIONS FROM DEPOSED PRESIDENT KWAME NKRUMAH, AS PART OF A PLOT TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT.

    BUT DAUDA TOLD THE COMMISSION HE TOOK THE MONEY, ABOUT GBP700 STERLING, TO ENTERTAIN GIRLS AND DUMPED THE BOMBS IN A RIVER IN MALI, ALTHOUGH HE TOLD INSTIGATORS OF THE PLOT HE HAD GIVEN SOME OF THE MONEY TO ARMY OFFICERS TO OVERTHROWN THE GOVERNMENT.

    MR. DAUDA SAID THAT BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 1967 DR. NKRUMAH ASKED HIM TO CARRY BOMBS FROM MALI AND SMUGGLE THEM THROUGH UPPER VOLTA TO GHANA.

    HE TOLD THE COMMISSION THAT HE HAD PERSONALLY DECIDED TO APPEAR BEFORE THEM AND THAT NOBODY WAS PAYING HIM FOR HIS EVIDENCE. HE ADMITTED THAT LAST FEBRUARY EFFORTS WERE MADE TO SECURE ASYLUM FOR HIM IN BRITAIN.
