  • Description

A SENIOR MEMBER OF THE UNITED NATIONS COMMAND AT PANMUNJON, MAJOR-GENERAL GILBERT WOODWARD, CHARGED NORTH KOREA WITH "LATENT AND DELIBERATE VIOLATIONS OF THE ARMISTICE AGREEMENT" AT THE 279TH MEETING OF THE MILITARY ARMISTICE COMMISSION ON FRIDAY. THE NORTH KOREAN NEGOTIATOR, MAJOR-GENERAL CHUNG KUK PAK, DENIED THAT NORTH KOREA HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY SUCH ACTS.

MAJOR-GENERAL WOODWARD CLAIMED THAT ON THE 24TH OF SEPTEMBER, SEVEN NORTH KOREAN INTRUDERS WERE KILLED IN AN HOUR-LONG BATTLE WITH SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS IN THE WESTERN SECTOR OF THE DEMILITARISED ZONE. HE CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS THE MOST PROVOCATIVE OF NORTH KOREA'S "RECENT AGGRESSIVE ACTIONS WITHIN THE DEMILITARISED ZONE."
HIS NORTH KOREAN COUNTER-PART, MAJOR-GENERAL PAK CLAIMED IN RESPONSE THAT THE INCIDENTS WERE THE RESULT OF "PATRIOTIC SOUTH KOREANS RISING UP AGAINST THE UNITED NATIONS COMMAND." THE U.N. COMMAND CLAIMS THAT SINCE THE LAST ARMISTICE MEETING ON THE 19TH OF SEPTEMBER, NORTH KOREA LAUNCHED 31 HOSTILE AGAINST SOUTH KOREA, RESULTING IN THE DEATH OF 15 NORTH KOREANS.
