  • Description

Golfing legend Ben Hogan has died at the age of 84 after a lengthy illness, his secretary said.
Pat Martin on Friday (July 25) said Hogan died in a Fort Worth hospital after being admitted with bronchitis, which he contracted last year.
Hogan, who underwent colon surgery two years ago, had 63 PGA Tour career victories, placing him third behind Sam Snead (81) and Jack Nicklaus (70) on the all-time list.
Hogan's greatest year was 1953, when he won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments: the U.S. Open, the Masters and the British Open.
Born in Dublin, Texas on August 13, 1912, Hogan first entered the golf world as a caddy at a country club in Fort Worth, where his family moved after his father committed suicide.
Hogan's legs were shattered in a car crash in 1949 but, showing his trademark single-mindedness and gritty determination, he scrambled back to the top.
