  • Description

The Ivory Coast, famous for its forests and timber exports, should soon be able to produce its own paper.

A technical delegation from Taiwan has spent a week in the country having discussions on the installation, in the near future, of a paper pulping factory.

The group has been negotiating contracts with Ivrory Coast Ministers and inspecting the virgin forests from which the wood will come for the pulp factory.

They have also been visiting sawmills, and the docks which export the Ivory Coast's timber to many countries in Europe.

On Monday (March 11) they visited the sawmills of Lameco-SEPC, near Abidjan -- a factory set up in 1972, employing 120 workers.

The Taiwan mission -- led by Mr. Hu Chu-Chao -- arrived in the Ivory Coast after a visit to Liberia. They were to return home on Wednesday (March 13).

While the Taiwan delegation was in the Ivory Coast, agricultural specialists from the West African country were taking part in the agricultural seminar in Taiwan -- part of Taiwan's Operation Friendship scheme.
