  • Description

Lebanese War Minister, Emir Magid Arsalane (white clothes and tarbouche) and General Fouad Chehab of the Lebanese army went to Beirut airport on September 20 to receive, on behalf of the government, a batch of six planes offered by Iraq.

Three RAF officers arrived from London to show the Lebanese how to handle and service the planes - Grumman Martlets.

The hand-over took place in a cordial atmosphere and was attended by the Iraqi Ambassador. The three Britains salute General Chehab during the course of the hand-over.

The planes are scarcely of strategic importance to the Lebanese, being obsolete as operation aircraft. They are of use only as trainers.
