    AMERICAN NAVAL PATROL PLANES ON THURSDAY OBSERVED THREE RUSSIAN SHIPS OUTWARD BOUND FROM CUBA CARRYING A TOTAL OF 42 ILUYSHIN-28 JET BOMBERS. THIS IS BELIEVED BY DEFENCE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS TO BE ALL THE RUSSIAN BOMBERS SENT TO CUBA.

    THE PLANES HAD BEEN SPOTTED ABOARD THREE FREIGHTERS, THE KRASNOGRAD, THE OKHOTSK AND THE KASIMOV. THEY WERE DISMANTLED, THEIR FUSELAGES CRATED AND CARRIED ON DECK. FILMED CARRYING 15 BOMBERS WAS THE KRASNOGRAD.

    ACCORDING TO A DEFENCE DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN THE CRATES ON BOARD THE KASIMOV CONTAINING FUSELAGES WERE "VOLUNTARILY OPENED FOR AMERICAN AIR INSPECTION BY THE SOVIET CREW."
