  • Description

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser has won the second biggest Parliamentary majority in the country's history. When vote counting was halted for the night following the general election on Saturday (10 December) his coalition government was headed for a landslide victory. Computer forecasts gave the government a majority of at least 40 seats in the 124-seat lower chamber, the House of Representatives, and a small but workable majority in the upper house, the Senate. From Australia, the BBC's Christopher Morris reports.
