  • Description

Hong Kong's newly completed multi million dollar oceanarium, The Ocean Park, had a Royal visit recently.

The visit came in the person of Princess Alexandra and her husband, Mr. Angus Ogilvy. Princess Alexandra is the cousin of Queen Elizabeth of England.

The Royal couple are currently on an eight day visit to this tiny British colony.

Huge crowds have turned out to follow the Princess everytime she has appeared in public, and the oceanarium was no exception as thousand of schoolchildren clapped and cheered as the Royal couple took their seats.

The crowd were also entertained by a spectacular exhibition of feats performed by dolphins and seals.

Many of the mammals were gifts from foreign governments, such as Australia. The oceanarium complex also boasts a large number of animals including kangaroos, llamas, goats and calves.

These dolphins have been trained to pick up distressed swimmers and tow them into shore.

Princess Alexandra was later treated to a visit to the oceanarium's "wave tank". This section of the complex is "home" to a large number of dolphins, seals and penguins. Waves of up to one metre in height are artificially produce to make the inhabitants feel at ease in their new surroundings.

The Princess is scheduled to officially open the colony's 1977 Arts Festival later during her visit.
