    Members of the European Jewish Executive met in Paris on Sunday (16 May) for the first day of the World Jewish Congress. The delegates attending the two-day Congress came from all over western Europe, Scandinavia, and from Yugoslavia. Delegations from the Women's International Zionist Organisation and the World Union of Jewish Students also attended.

    One of the first items on the agenda for Saturday was the position of Jews in the Soviet Union and in Eastern Europe.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Maison des Centraux in Paris, delegates and officials gathered on Sunday for the opening of the World Jewish Congress. The delegates came from all over western Europe, and from as far afield as Yugoslavia for the Congress, which was scheduled to end the following evening.

    One of the major items listed on the agenda for the opening day was the position of Jews in the Soviet Union and in Eastern Europe. Monday was set aside for a lengthy report on the Middle East situation by the Israeli Ambassador to France, Mr. Asher Ben Natan.

    Besides delegates from Europe, officials from the Women's International Zionist Organisation and the World Union of Jewish Students attended the opening day of the Congress. The Chief Rabbis of France and Paris were also present, along with guests from Canada and Switzerland.
